People often ask the same questions regarding our DJ service, so I have compiled a list of frequently asked questions.

1. How will you make my event a success?
Many times, when an event isn't all you hoped it would be, it's because of lack of communication between the couple & the DJ. The DJ needs to know what's expected of him or her so the best possible event can take place. DJs who are inexperienced and don't know how to read a crowd can turn your wedding into a disaster! Make sure your DJ has a proven track record and REFERENCES. Check them! Make sure you explain to the DJ what you like, what you expect, and what has to happen for you to say "that's the best time I've ever had!"

2. What if my guests have trouble getting in the party mood? What will you do to get them going?
Guests want to see the bride & groom on the dance floor, because they are the stars of the evening! Even if you are not a big dancer, you should make an effort to participate in the dance. At the very least, get out there for the slow ballads. Guests see you having fun and want to join in! If guests aren't dancing, we will first change the music. Then we'll try a participation game, and often we will get out there ourselves!
3. How do you know what music to play? Will you take requests?

Of course requests are welcomed. But keep in mind, to ensure success for your event, it's important to appeal to all of your guests, not just a small group. I will play music from many different eras, but most of what I play could be classified as "wedding favorites," those songs you often hear at weddings. Songs like "Old Time Rock 'N Roll," "Celebration," and "The Twist." I will also do popular participation games like the Hokey Pokey, Chicken Dance, Macarena & Electric Slide. Even if you hate these games, many of your guests will want to take part in them. I strongly encourage you to allow them, even if you decide to opt out. Most of your guests will have a ball! I will also take requests, but if something is totally undanceable, I will try to find another alternative that makes the guest happy. Keep in mind, there's only time to play about 75-80 songs during a four hour event, so you'll want to make sure you choose the most danceable ones that will appeal to the broadest range of guests. A good DJ will know how to read the crowd, and will intuitively know which music is right just by getting a feel for what the crowd wants.

4. How many weddings have you done?
I have been performing at weddings since 1995. I worked for two different local mobile DJcompanies, as well as for a bar as a karaoke DJ before I purchased my own sound & light system in 2001. I have done weddings, schools, clubs, bars, parties & company events. I can safely say I have been in almost any situation, from the most formal ballroom affair, to a casual and relaxed outdoor event in a tent. I am a versatile performer who can conform to your event. I have done over 500 weddings in the last ten years. These are my specialty. I still do other events, too, but weddings are my absolute favorite!
5. How many songs do you have?
I have literally thousands of songs. If you give me advanced notice, I can make sure to have any song you want. I run my music off two laptops and an iPod, plus I bring along about 300 back up CDs just in case the worst were to happen.
6. What happens if you get sick?
Part of the beauty ofbeing a small business is that you deal only with Mike & I. We take our business and your special event VERY seriously. I have NEVER stood up a client or not shown up for an event. Think about it, it is my business, and I have no one else to blame if a customer is not happy. It is very important to me that you are thrilled with our services, and that your guests are, too. In the past ten years, I have had to get a back up entertainer just twice, one of the times being when Mike was hospitalized for his appendix. If the worst were to happen and I was not able to perform at your event, I have about ten reliable entertainers I can call on. They are all highly regarded and some of the best in the industry and I trust them completely. I am also on their list if they happen to have an emergency! Mike & I keep ourselves in great shape and hardly ever get sick. If we do, it's a common cold and not something that would require us to "call in sick." We are currently training for a marathon. We do not drink or smoke and believe keeping ourselves in optimal shape will help us be at our best for your event.
7. What kind of equipment do you have?
We have all professional DJ quality equipment from manufacturers like Gemini, QSC, Yorkville, and Dell. We buy a lot of our lighting from Guitar Center in the Twin Cities. We have a very impressive sound and light show, including fog, lasers, hyper beams, strobes and pulsating beams. We also have a back up amp ready to go so the party never has to end early!
8. What makes you different from all the other DJs out there?
For one thing, experience. I have been doing this for ten years and also have experience as a radio DJ and television reporter. This is a high turnover business, and many DJs don't last very long. It's stressful and a lot more work than many realize. I have proven I am in it for the long haul. I have also served as emcee for many different events, I do public speaking, and I am comfortable in front of a crowd. Number two, I also have a very musical background. I know a lot about many different genres of music. Plus, with AudioStar, you'll never have to worry about which entertainer will show up at your wedding. Mike & I are the company's owners, and you will deal with ONLY us from start to finish. I want to make sure we are right for you and you are right for us. If I don't think we are right for you, I will be the first to tell you . I have been doing this too long to just book gigs for the money only. It is much more than that for me. I genuinely care about giving the best performance I can to each and every client.
9. How much will you interact with my guests?
As much or as little as you want. YOU call the shots. If you want me to just stand there and play music though, I probably am not the right performer for you. My personality enables me to add much more to the show than just standing there and being a human jukebox. I feel most comfortable as a medium-interaction DJ. Not over-the-top or cheesy, but just right.
10. How much do you cost???
This is probably the main question a couple wants to know, but it probably shouldn't be! If cost is your only concern, then you will probably get what you pay for. I believe with my experience and the amount of time and effort I put into a show, the cost is very reasonable. Call for details. (218)341-3063 |
